Is The Bible The Word of God (Part 3)
Pastor Al V. Hughes

A PERFECT GOD REQUIRES A PERFECT BIBLE

We are dealing with the only four possible positions a person can have concerning the question “Is the Bible the Word of God?”
1. The Bible is the Word of God.
2. The Bible contains the Word of God.
3. The Bible is not the Word of God.
4. I don’t know if the Bible is the Word of God.
Using deductive reasoning, I am attempting to prove that position #1 is the only possible conclusion after logically eliminating the other three possibilities.
Last week I dealt with the issue of “Which Bible?” Obviously not all Bibles can be the Word of God since they all read different.
I don’t know a single person who claims any translation to be the perfect Word of God, except the King James Bible. And for good reason: All other translations have errors in them. For example, the most popular modern translation on the market today is the New International Version (NIV). Yet, a person only needs to study Mark 1:2-3 in an NIV to see it is in error. Notice:

•It is written in Isaiah the prophet: “I will send my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way— a voice of one calling in the desert, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.’” (NIV)

You will look in vain in the Book of Isaiah for the statement, “Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.” It isn’t there, yet the NIV says it is written in Isaiah. Actually that statement is written in Malachi 3:1, not Isaiah. There is no doubt about it, the NIV has a mistake in it.   The KJV has Mark 1:2-3 correct:

"As it is written in the PROPHETS, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee. The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight." (KJV)

Notice, the accuracy of the KJV. It says “As it is written in the PROPHETS…” [plural—referring to both Isaiah AND Malachi]
The NIV (and all other modern translations) is imperfect. At best, it only contains the Word of God.
A perfect God requires a perfect Bible! Can we expect anything less?
And as one author said, “God only wrote one Bible.” The question is… WHERE IS IT? More to come...
